The '68 Nova SS 350
looks like a winner from every angle-and it will be, if the
public can only forget all its tickytacky, cheaper-than-cheap
predecessors. It is, in fact, a Camaro sedan, enjoying almost
universal interchangeability of major mechanical components
with Chevy's sporty car. In effect, this hot version comes off
exactly like a Camaro with more room. Although
the 396 cu. in. V-8 and 3-speed Turbo HydraMatic transmission
of the hottest Camaro may be lurking somewhere in the Chevy.
It's future, the top option currently available is the 295-hp
350 cu. in. V-8, with 3- or 4-speed manual box, or the prehistoric
Powerglide. This engine delivers it performance as smooth
torque, rather than screaming horsepower, which perfectly
suits the overall concept of the car. Suspension performance
is the same way-stiffer and better-controlled than on other
Chevrolets, but still smooth and comfortable. With the optional
discs come two advantages-great stopping power and better
handling, believe it or notbecause Chevy Its with discs also
have 6-inch rims instead of the 5-inchers that come standard.
The '68 Chevy II has grown an
inch in wheelbase and six inches overall, but it's grown a
mile in style, comfort, quality and performance.
