Hey, this time the
Dodge Brothers really did it. After struggling along with the
old Charger--a car that reminded veteran sales types at Chrysler
of the Airflow disaster-this year they really bowled a strike
with a new and completely revamped model-and it swings!
The 1968 Charger has to be one
of the most visually exciting cars on the market, anywhere,
and we are here to tell you that it's every bit as good as
it looks. Naturally if you're going to swing for a machine
like the Charger, you go for the super motor, right? And that
has to be the optional 426 Hemi, right? And with the Hemi
comes a really complete handling package, including stiffer
shocks and springs, big front disc brakes, etc., right? So
without question, that's the hot set-up for the Charger, right?
The interior of the Charger is
every bit as nice as the outside-discreet, richlooking and
functional. Round instruments tell you what's going on, and
the pleated, unruffled vinyl seats make you think of the Orsi
Brothers or Pininfarina or somebody.
Packed with the Hemi, the Charger
goes like its looks imply it should. Here is a genuine 150-mph
car that does everything an automobile should do, and well.
Surely the Charger ranks among the best of this year's crop. |
